Venuway

Timed parking, shuttle seats and a police-ready traffic plan for big events

Logistics

TL;DR Venuway is an event-day mobility desk for concert promoters, cricket associations and large venues. It reads ticket data to forecast when and from where people will arrive, sells timed parking and shuttle seats alongside the ticket, and drafts the traffic plan police ask for. Promoters pay per event.

The problem

Big Indian events still treat getting there as the fan's problem. When a global rock band played a Navi Mumbai stadium in January 2025, about 45,000 people came each day, roughly 15% of them from Mumbai, and traffic on the Sion-Panvel Highway ran about an hour late. Schools nearby in Nerul even cancelled classes[1].

The worst case is far worse. At the June 2025 cricket title celebration in Bengaluru, Karnataka told the High Court the gathering passed 3 lakh people, and 11 died[2]. The inquiry commission found the organisers had not filed the required traffic management plan, and it urged integrated public transport for mass events[3].

The idea

Regulatory scope: planning and booking software plus an operations desk. It does not control signals, close roads or replace police. City traffic police keep authority over closures and diversions.

Six to eight weeks out, Venuway takes the promoter's ticket data (buyer pin code, gate, seat block) and builds an arrival and exit forecast by zone and quarter-hour. Fans buy a parking slot with a time window, or a shuttle seat from a pickup hub, right at checkout. The promoter gets a draft traffic plan with parking maps, shuttle routes and expected peaks to file with police, and on the day a desk watches gate scans and nudges late slots by SMS.

The seed was a pure traffic forecast, and a forecast on its own moves no cars. A private firm can't run city signals either. The value lies in shaping demand before the day, using data only the promoter holds.

Who pays

Fans use it but the promoter or venue pays. Promoters already spend on police coordination, barricading and transport for marquee shows. In Abu Dhabi, the same band's fans had to pre-book free park-and-ride buses through the ticketing site because the venue offered no parking[4], which shows promoters will fund transport when the venue forces the issue. Venuway would charge a per-event fee plus a share of parking and shuttle sales. I found no public price for this service in India.

Why now

Stadium concerts at the scale of 1 lakh seats are now regular - Ahmedabad's stadium concerts in January 2025 needed over 3,800 police[5]. After the July 2025 Bengaluru commission report[3], police and state governments have more reason to demand written crowd and traffic plans before granting permission. That turns a nice-to-have into paperwork promoters must produce.

Market signal

No public figure exists for spending on event mobility in India. The bottom-up signal is the size of single events, with 45,000 a day at the Navi Mumbai shows[1] and venues holding over 1 lakh[5]. A few dozen such events a year across six metros is a real market but a narrow one. Treat it as a niche services business first.

Who's already doing this

A big navigation app runs a programme where event organisers share closures with drivers, and a German routing firm guides trade-fair traffic with forecast-based routing. Both route cars and neither sells seats or slots. In India, private bus operators have run ad hoc concert services and police publish advisories, but I found no company selling an end-to-end event mobility desk to promoters. The gap is the link between ticket data and transport capacity.

How hard is it?

Difficulty Moderate (42/100)
Starting capital ₹45–85 L
Time to launch 6–9 months

The software is modest. The hard part is access, because promoters guard ticket data and ticketing platforms may not share it. Event-day operations are unforgiving too, since a shuttle running late at 11 p.m. becomes a news story with your name on it. Each city's police work differently, so expansion is slow.

Licences and approvals

Venuway itself needs no sector licence, but every event it serves runs on police permission.

  • Police event permission and traffic plan, filed by the organiser before each event. In Bengaluru the inquiry commission cited a seven-day lead time[3]. Check each commissionerate.
  • Contract-carriage permits, held by the bus operators you hire, before any shuttle runs. Don't run your own fleet at first.
  • DPDP Act compliance before you touch ticket data, since pin codes and phone numbers are personal data. Erase it after the event[6].
  • Company registration with the MCA and GST registration before you invoice.

Building this outside India? The categories above usually have a local equivalent, so check with your own regulator.

How AI can power this business

  • Arrival forecasts. A model reads ticket pin codes, gates and seat blocks to predict arrivals by zone and quarter-hour, which sets parking and shuttle capacity.
  • Draft traffic plans. Generate a first-draft plan with maps and peaks for the promoter to file, which a human operations lead checks.
  • Live nudges. On the day, gate scans feed a model that spots slow zones and sends SMS nudges to late parking slots.
  • Post-event review. Compare forecast against actual scans, so the next show's plan starts from real numbers.

Don't trust AI with crowd safety calls on the day. Closures, diversions and crowd control stay with police and trained staff.

Biggest risks

  • Data access. Ticketing platforms may refuse integration or build parking add-ons themselves.
  • Lumpy revenue. Big events cluster in a few months, and one cancelled tour can wipe out a quarter.
  • Liability. Being named in a crowd incident, even unfairly, could end the company.

Our take

I like this for a founder from live events or ticketing who already knows promoters and police contacts in one city. If you're a pure data-science team hoping to sell forecasts then skip it. First prove that one promoter will share ticket data and that at least 20% of attendees buy a slot or seat when it's offered at checkout.

Questions founders ask

Plan for roughly ₹45–85 L, mostly software, an operations desk and partnerships with shuttle operators.

Do I need a licence to start an event mobility service in India?

Not for Venuway itself. The organiser needs police permission and a traffic plan, and buses must come from permit-holding operators.

Can I start an event traffic planning business in another country?

Yes, big concerts strain roads everywhere, and Abu Dhabi tied buses to tickets. Check local event permits and data rules.

Thinking about building Venuway or something close to it? The make-or-break work is getting a promoter to share ticket data and running a clean first event, and that's the kind of thing I help founders with. If you need a hand, you know where to find me. Talk to Yash →
